Historical Maps

Using scanned Ordnance Survey maps from 1909 supplied by the National Library of Scotland and georeferenced in QGIS I have created this Google map showing footpaths as they were then overlaid onto Google satellite imagery. I have also added the sites of the following features that are shown on the map but have been lost or demolished since then, Lover’s Seat, the “New Barn” from which Barn Pond got it’s name, the tea garden in Fairlight Glen and Ecclesbourne Coastguard Station. Click on the features for an image from a postcard (where available). It’s quite easy to spot the current paths on Google and see how much has changed, particularly to the coastal path.
